Three Thankful Things

-Is there something in particular that causes you to thank your lucky stars each and every day?

-Do you wake up each morning wondering how you ever survived without Uber, Instacart or Amazon Prime?

-Do you find it hard to remember what life was like before ESPN, Facetime or the Roomba?

Family, friends, food and fun . . . those are a given (or should be), but are there any other things you are thankful for?  Here are our Top 3:

Brooke (60-Something Baby Boomer)

Three Things I’m Thankful For…

Smart Resume – Oh!  Life Is Good!  I can now fast forward through commercials with one touch and programming automatically starts again when the ads are over.  Just a little gift from Xfinity saying, “Here you go, sad little TV addict.  Enjoy.”

My 8’ Inflatable Unicorn – Honestly, no Day Spa, no Ashram, no Hyperbaric Chamber can provide me the level of peace, comfort and total relaxation I get from floating on Jax, my horny blow up pal.  That he was a gift from Karen, Amanda and Lindsay makes me love him more.

Black Box Wine – No longer the province of the proletariat, box wine now garners acclaim and wins awards.  But that’s not why I’m thankful.  This is guilt free inebriation – unlike reaching the end of a bottle, there’s no way of knowing how much you really drank until you finally remove the plastic “bladder” yielding two bonus glasses!  And it fits exactly on my fridge shelf.

Amanda (30-Something Millennial)

Athleisure – I’m thankful for the trend of forgiving waistbands, black yoga pants that make your butt look good and not having to wear uncomfortable shoes since sneakers, even with dresses, is the “cool” thing to do.

Binge watching – thank you to Netflix for normalizing an entire TV series being released at once. I no longer have to wait week-to-week to see what happens in many of my favorite shows and spending a weekend on the couch watching a show is acceptable.

Instagram Stories – Do I want to see the photo of your Christmas tree and do you want to see ANOTHER picture of my dog? Probably not. But do I appreciate the ADHD friendly short “stories”? Yes I do. It’s short doses of true reality tv that tell me the latest beauty hacks, what sweater I need next, cute puppy videos, recipe ideas, anything! I find people to be more real in these short glimpses of life and they’re much more fun and interactive.

Lindsay (Fabulous Forties)

I have a lot of things to be thankful for, and I consider myself very blessed.

My top 3 were very easy for me!

Online Shopping – I am thankful for never having to shop for ANYTHING in public.  I never have to try on clothes in a tiny, over lit dressing room or stuff the gigantic package of TP in a rickety shopping cart.

Tito’s Vodka – I am enormously thankful for Titos Vodka.  Distilled 6 times for no (or small depending on consumption) hangover, Made in the USA, and Titos is for “dog people”.  They donate and rescue dogs as a passion.  If you drink another vodka, you need to switch. NOW!

Friends & Family – I am most thankful for my friends and family.  I keep my close friend/family base small, so they know WAY too much to disown any of them.

Karen (F’ing Fifties)

Podcasts – Looking for something to do while you’re on a train, in a plane or cleaning the drain?  Do you want to listen to snippets of your favorite comedian, get a follow-up on a recent True-Crime case or hear the latest behind the scenes gossip from your favorite reality show?  There’s a pod for that!  I no longer get road rage during my daily commute; in fact, I sometimes look forward to rush hour traffic since it allows me time to listen to an entire episode of my favorite podcast.  If you ever find yourself dreading an upcoming road trip, just give me a call . . . I’ll drive!

Life Hacks – Thanks to Buzzfeed’s popular lists, I now know that I can quickly make a perfect  grilled cheese sandwich in the toaster by turning it on its side or using the sticky part of a Post-It Note is a quick and easy way to clean all of those crumbs (or dog hair) from my keyboard.  Did you know that dental floss will slice thru most dough with ease?  Want perfectly shaped brownies, cinnamon rolls or cookies?  Start Flossing (no, not that type of Flossing, let’s save those dance moves for the kids).  Although, on second thought, you may very well be inclined to break out your best dance moves once you’ve simplified everything else in your everyday life.

Botox – I was getting so tired of my husband constantly asking me what was wrong or if I was mad.  The sad truth was that I knew exactly why he was asking, but nothing was wrong, it was just my face!  Enter Botox, since injecting Botulinum Toxin into my forehead my brow furrows are almost gone (and, coincidentally, so is that husband).

  1. Very descriptive blog, I loved that bit. Will
    there be a part 2?

  2. Well, ladies, I’m too tired out from Thanksgiving to be very original so will ditto your choices, with special emphasis on drinking Black Box Cabernet while binge watching old TV series (Mary Tyler Moore? Upstairs, Downstairs??) Thanks for your amusing and informative comments—I always learn of something I should try, such as smart resume and maybe Botox!!!

    1. We highly recommend all of the above. And, Black Box & binge watching sounds like my new Anti-Black Friday ritual!

  3. Jose, Tito and Bailey.

    1. I see we have some friends in common. Cheers!

  4. The three things I am most grateful for are:
    1). Tom Brady
    2). Tom Brady
    3). Tom Brady

    1. I agree, I’m a big fan of Brady, but more of the Bunch kind. . . Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

  5. Thankful also for you sharing your comments and including me on this fun! Also thankful for all the wonderful new recipes for one of my favorite veggies….Brussels sprouts!

    1. Thank you for the reminder, who knew those little balls of grossness that I refused to eat as a child would later turn into sweet, carmelized deliciousness once roasted! Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. Always enjoy this! Gives me a laugh..Thankful for you – hahha
